I really need to update this blog more. At some point I will upload a bunch of pics of my Empire army. For now, here is one. A follower of my youtube channel needed a picture of my great swords.

Pictures of Army
It seems that I am maintaining this blog site simply as a way to host pictures of my army. You can click on the "knights" or "peasants" pages to see the pictures I've already uploaded. I need to upload some pics of my most recently painted models, but that will have to wait for now.

Knights of the Realm - 4
These guys are the command group of my (currently) only KOTR unit. The champion's heraldry is the same as what I use for all my Men-at-Arms units, as if the peasants come from his province. Similarly, the unit standard is the same design as the peasants'. Of course, it is bolder and brighter, but that is only to be expected.

Knights of the Realm - 2
Here are another couple of knights I painted when I was first starting. The green does not match the color scheme of the rest of the army, but I'm ok with it.
If anything, like many of my knights, these guys are a big drab. I don't have the confidence to try checkered patterns or anything too fancy. So, I go for bold colors with shading and highlighting. I've changed my techniques a lot since these guys, but I still like the looks of them.

Knights of the Realm - 1
I thought I'd post close-up pictures of my various units and models as a way of letting people get a better glimpse of the army that they see in my battle reports. If you want to see this picture in more detail, go to my 'Knights' page (link in the lower right corner). When you see pictures there, you can click on them to enlarge them. Anyway, I'll start off with this one:
These Knights of the Realm were some of the first ones I painted since I got back into the WFB hobby in 2008. In all honesty, I don't like them very much - which really sucks when you put so much work into painting these little buggers. I find the old style shields hard to paint - or at least, hard to make look right. And I can't seem to find a way to make decals look right on the old style horses; they just look out of place to me. The only way I've found that looks good is to paint a background heraldic shield, and then put the decal on top of that. I'm open to any thoughts or ideas about other ways to make the old style horse design look better.
Overall, the color scheme for my knights is simple: only Primary colors (red, yellow, blue) as well as black and white. Well, obviously the black and purple knight breaks these rules. I painted these guys before deciding on that color scheme. I have a couple other knights that 'break the rules' - and one of these days I might add a couple more so I can put them all in one unit so they can all break the rules together. The rebels!
